A Certified Legal Nurse Consultant is a registered nurse who has successfully mastered the rigorous CLNC® Certification Program developed by the company that pioneered the field of legal nurse consulting. The CLNC® has the expertise to quickly pinpoint and interpret medical and nursing issues in any case involving health, illness or injury.
Certified Legal Nurse Consultants are qualified to answer questions, research topics and assist the attorney in developing the medical-related issues of many types of cases.

As Certified Legal Nurse Consultants® our major role is to help juries, judges and opposing attorneys understand complex medical facts from a medical professional's point of view. The Certified Legal Nurse Consultant® educates and offers services to attorneys (plaintiff and defense), insurance companies, healthcare facilities, other Certified Legal Nurse Consultants® and medical-legal consultants (plaintiff and defense), government agencies and private corporations.
Services of the Certified Legal Nurse Consultant® include but are not limited to:
Medical Record Analysis
• Identify, locate, review and interpret relevant medical records, hospital policies and procedures, other documents and tangible items.
• Organize, tab and paginate medical records for easy reference.
• Prepare chronologies of the medical events involved in the case.
• Identify issues of tampering with medical records.
• Summarize, translate and interpret medical records.
• Screen medical malpractice cases for merit.
• Identify, locate, summarize and interpret applicable standards of care.
• Develop written report for the attorney’s use as study tools.
Case Support
• Search and summarize medical and nursing literature and integrate search results into the case analysis.
• Analyze the validity of research studies relied on by all parties.
• Assist in the development of Life Care Plans.
Medical Liaison
• Interview plaintiff and defense clients, key witnesses and experts.

Discovery and Court Preparation
• Prepare questions for deposition or trial examination (direct or cross).
• Prepare interrogatories and request for production.
• Analyze and summarize depositions and past testimony.
• Assist with exhibit preparation and other demonstrative evidence.
• Attend court room proceedings when relevant.
• Coordinate and assist with facilitating focus groups and mock trial.
• Assist in resolution of cases through alternative dispute resolution, such as arbitration and mediation.
